As ML/AI continue to emerge as disruptive technologies across the water sector, questions remain about how these tools can be effectively integrated with engineering judgment, operational expertise, and workforce capabilities.
The Vice President and Director of Water Innovation and Technology at Stantec will share insights into practical applications of ML/AI, including multi-day influent flow forecasting and the use of soft sensors to provide insights into biological processes. Drawing on applied research and real-world implementation, the presentation will explore the use and scalability of these technologies across diverse facilities and operational environments.

With over 25 years of experience spanning operations, consulting, technology development, and academia, he specializes in integrating AI, machine learning, and emerging technologies into real‑world water and wastewater systems. Sandeep guides multidisciplinary teams to translate innovation into scalable, high‑impact solutions that enhance infrastructure performance, resilience, and decision‑making. He holds a PhD in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Tufts University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University, combining deep technical expertise with systems‑level and strategic thinking.
